Crystal of the week: Sodalite

Crystal of the week: Sodalite

Welcome to crystal of week! This weeks crystal is a common crystal: Sodalite

Sodalite is one of the youngest in gemstone years. This deep blue mineral gemstone was not discovered until 1806. But when it was found, it was found in Greenland. Once Sodalite was found it did not gain an appreciation as an ornamental gemstone until 1891.

Large Sodalite crystals were found at this time in Ontario, Canada. Sodalite has now also been found in Brazil, India, Namibia, Russia and in Montana in the United States.

Sodalite is not always deep blue in colouring. Sodalite colour can also be gray, purple, orange or yellow or have no color at all.

Sodalite's meaning in Greek is salt stone. Sodalite was named due to the fact that it contains a great amount of salt. The high level of salt in Sodalite is what makes it a mineral, not a rock.

Sodalite is often mistaken for Lapis Lazuli, which occasionally contains Sodalite. Lapis Lazuli is a true mineral rock that has a higher density than Sodalite.

Sodalite is the stone about logic, truth and inner peace. Sodalite properties are deeply connected to the heart. This connection with the heart imparts a calming effect that makes it easier to connect with your inner peace.

Sodalite is the stone to help improve communications and helps guide those through disagreements and arguments. This is an important Sodalite power that is at the root of Sodalite meaning. It helps reduce the negativity and enhance positivity.

Sodalite is also known as the "poet's stone". Sodalite’s properties are very beneficial to writers. Sodalite mineral stones encourage a positive thought process and enhanced communication, both of which are the key to writers.

Sodalite enhances spiritual healing due to its ability to reduce personal negativity and provide protection from external negative influences. This crystal allows for a deeper spiritual understanding helping you in the right direction.

The subconscious mind is more easily accessed with the use of Sodalite. Sodalite works with the Throat chakra by encouraging truthfulness while working within the subconscious.

Sodalite creates a soothing effect on over stressed or sluggish adrenal glands. Sodalite gives us a sense of calm to weather the storms of life.
